Safe Idea

In a Nutshell

A safe idea is a creative approach that takes no risks, disturbs no one, and can be easily approved. In theory: a risk-free solution. In practice: often forgettable work.

What It Really Means

The safe idea is the easiest common ground between agency and client. It frightens no one, challenges no one, excites no one too much.

Such ideas are often found "on brand." But sometimes being on brand becomes a polite excuse for not attracting attention.

A safe idea doesn't have to be bad. But an idea chosen only because it's safe usually gets lost in the communication clutter.

In advertising, sometimes the biggest risk is taking no risk at all.
