Like

In a Nutshell

A like is the simplest form of approval a user gives to content on social media. In theory: a small digital feedback. In practice: the number brands still take too seriously.

What It Really Means

The like is one of social media's oldest and most misleading metrics. It's easy to count, easy to put in a report, easy to explain to the client.

But a like doesn't always mean genuine interest. People sometimes like out of habit, sometimes because they liked the visual, sometimes just in passing.

When brands focus too much on likes, they can miss deeper metrics: memorability, trust, purchase intent, word of mouth, saves, or shares.

The like is the smallest applause of the digital world. It has noise, but not always meaning.
