Pitch Deck
In a Nutshell
A pitch deck is a document where the idea, strategy, design, or campaign is presented in an organized flow. It's usually prepared to explain and convince the client. In theory: a storytelling tool. In practice: the idea being produced a second time.
What It Really Means
The pitch deck is a production in its own right in agency life. The idea is found, the design is made, the copy is written; then a whole separate world is built to explain why all of this makes sense.
Sometimes the deck overtakes the work. Slide layout, headline tone, visual selection, and transition flow get discussed more than the idea itself.
A good deck polishes the idea. A bad deck makes even a good idea look ordinary.
In agencies, the pitch deck is the suit the idea wears on its way to the client.
