Shoot

In a Nutshell

A shoot is the production stage where photo or video content is recorded with a camera. In theory: the image capture process. In practice: the day everyone's opinion changes on set.

What It Really Means

Shoot day is the most visible but most fragile stage of production. Plans are made, the set is prepared, the crew is assembled. Then the weather changes, the light changes, the client changes their mind.

Every detail not clarified before the shoot becomes a problem on set. Everything said as "we'll figure it out there" returns as lost time on shoot day.

A good shoot requires preparation. A good camera alone is not enough.

The shoot is the day planning gets tested against reality.
